Foley Hoag Expands Patent Prosecution, Strategy and Management Practice with Addition of N. Scott Pierce as Partner

N. Scott Pierce has joined Foley Hoag LLP as a partner in the Intellectual Property Department and member of the Patent Prosecution, Strategy and Management practice. He is resident in the firm’s Boston office.
Pierce practices primarily in the areas of biotechnology, organic and polymer chemistry, pharmaceuticals, chemical engineering, electronics and medical devices. His expertise includes applications in abdominal and thoracic stent grafts, biomechatronics, polymerized blood substitutes, semiconductors, heterojunction bipolar transistors, and lithium ion batteries, among others.
"Scott has been preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications throughout his 30-year patent law career," said Foley Hoag Co-Managing Partner Jeffrey Collins. Prior to joining Foley Hoag, Pierce was a partner in the Boston office of Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr. Before that, he was a partner for many years at Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds in Concord, Massachusetts. He has been an adjunct professor at Suffolk University Law School since 2003.
Pierce earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut. His Juris Doctorate is from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.
